20 June 09: Sussex Jazz Kings
Led by Dave Stradwick on cornet, the Jazz Kings are fine musicians and great entertainers. They were brilliant at our Christmas party so we're delighted to have them back again.
4 July 09: Andrew Hall's Memories of New Orleans
For Independence Day we bring you this unique review of the best of New Orleans music. Andrew Hall spent 35 years performing in New Orleans and has now brought together an exceptional band to bring you vivid recollections of the Crescent City. (This gig coincides with the Birmingham International Jazz Festival)
18 July 09: New Orleans Wiggle
Blues, spirituals and authentic New Orleans jazz from this Yorkshire based band who are joined by talented vocalist Carolyn Topsy Hilton. She has a superb bluesy voice with echoes of Bessie Smith and Alberta Hunter. They led the jazz Songs of Praise at the recent Keswick jazz festival. When this band played here in February they were so popular we thought you'd enjoy a second helping.
1 August 09: A tribute to Barry Phillips
This evening is our tribute to our late President and founder of the Waterworks Jazz Club. Trombone player and dancer extraordinaire, Barry died on 20 March.
His funeral was a sad, wonderful and uplifting occasion with the Adamant Parade Band, a New Orleans brolly parade (in the rain!) plus a male voice choir and flamenco dancers. We can't match that but we will have Barbara & All That Jazz, one of the bands Barry played with. Everyone welcome.
12 September 09: Old Fashioned Love Band
Relaxed and mellow sounds. They're old fashioned like the cocktail—smooth but with a kick!
